How to install a WordPress plugin

Once you’ve downloaded a plugin from our site, you’ll need to upload it into WordPress. This is something that WordPress makes very easy.

First, login to your site and click on the Plugins > Add Plugin tab. The plugin menu should be about halfway down your WordPress menu and looks like the image to the right.

Clicking on Add Plugin will take you to the following page. This lists all of the plugins that are hosted at WordPress.org, and makes it a one-click process to install. Our plugins are not hosted at WordPress.org, so you’ll need to upload the zip file that you downloaded from us.

Switch to the upload page by clicking on the small “Upload” link just under the “Install Plugin” heading. Your screen will switch to the following.

Depending on your browser, your screen may look a bit different. The screenshot was taken in Chrome, and Safari will look similar. Internet Explorer and Firefox will both have a small text field instead of the “No file chosen” shown here and the button will say “Browse” instead of “Choose File.” Click either Browse or Choose File, depending on your browser, and find and select the zip file you downloaded. Press OK and then click on the Install Now button.

Again, what happens next depends a bit on your server setup.

If your server is setup to allow WordPress to write files the plugin will be uploaded. If WordPress cannot write to the server then it will prompt you for your FTP login information.

After you’ve uploaded, you’ll need to activate the plugin. WordPress should prompt you to active, but if it doesn’t or you missed the step you can also do it from the main plugins page. Scroll down to the plugin you just uploaded and click on the Activate link.

And if you change your mind, you can also deactivate the plugin in the same way.
